During this time I remember going to an outside (most everything was done outside) movie. We watched "The Green Berets" with John Wayne. I can remember the "live" movie reviews being given by the viewers.
See Bob Hope really was there!
I got to pull guard duty one night. I remember being issued a M-16 with LIVE ammo. (The army didn't give you live ammo in basic training as they were afraid you might shoot somebody!).
I remember going to the mess hall for Christmas dinner while at the 1st Cav reception center. The dinner was great but it was really hard to get into the Christmas sprint when it is hot and humid.

We were assigned to guard duty with approximately 3 or 4 people in a bunker. During this time I remember shooting M79 grenades out of the fence line just to keep awake.
While on guard duty a unit of tanks went out on a hillside just outside the wire and opened up with 20mm rounds against the side of the hill. Not shooting at anything in particular just doing it for the show.
Still doing "green line" guard duty. Since I was the "new guy" I stayed at the bunker doing guard duty while the others in our bunker went to the local NCO club. It wasn't to bad. I spent the night popping M79 rounds out past the wire.
